The two services, and what an IOSS order changes
PDDP and DDU are the two ways a parcel's duty and VAT actually get settled. IOSS isn't a third service: it's a type of order, where VAT has already been collected from the customer at checkout. An IOSS order still travels on a PDDP or DDU code — but for some countries if you are using aDDU code for an IOSS order there needs one extra setting flipped first.

Services in brackets are extra compensation versions of the service that are valid.
What's different about an IOSS order
An IOSS order has already had its VAT collected from the customer at checkout, under Royal Mail's IOSS scheme. It still needs booking on a PDDP or DDU service code but it may require a different service to be selected.
On the countries below where an IOSS order uses a DDU code (MTK, MP7, HVK/HVB, DG4, DE4), that shipping method needs Allow Additional Handling Fees to be Paid switched on. It's a one-off setting on the shipping method itself, not something you tick per order. Enabling it marks that DDU booking as duty-paid, so the recipient isn't charged again for duty already covered by IOSS. Leave it off for regular (non-IOSS) DDU orders going to the same countries.
❗Please Note: If you are using a PDDP Service you will be asked to enter the Duty Amount or the despatch will fail. You can manually enter this on edit order page or on your shipping method you can enable the "Default duty to £0 if not specified" option. If we default it to £0 that means royal mail will calculate the amount of your behalf but this may incur handling charges.
Despatching an IOSS order
IOSS orders have already had VAT collected at checkout. They're booked on the same DDU service codes above — the only question is whether that shipping method needs the handling-fees setting switched on first.Book on the DDU code — handling-fees setting required (17 countries)
Book the IOSS order on the DDU service code. Before you do, make sure "Allow Additional Handling Fees to be Paid" is switched on for that shipping method.

Despatching a regular order (Non-IOSS)
Regular orders collect duty either up front (PDDP) or from the recipient on delivery (DDU) — no VAT has been prepaid, so no toggle applies here.
Full choice — PDDP or DDU (14 countries)
Both duty routes work for these countries for a regular orders so the choice of services is optional. PDDP means you will pay the duty. DDU would mean that the recipient will pay on delivery.
