What is Amazon Transparency?
Amazon Transparency is Amazon's serialisation programme where each unit of a product carries a unique code (a "Transparency Code") that must be reported to Amazon at the point of fulfilment. This confirms authenticity and helps combat counterfeiting.
This article assumes your account already has the Amazon Transparency Number feature enabled. If you're not sure whether it's active on your account and you need to upload Amazon Transparency Numbers, contact support and we can confirm/enable it for you.
Enabling Transparency on a product
- Go to the product's edit page.
- Open the Shipping & Handling tab.
- In the Size & Shipping Details section, turn on the toggle "Is Amazon Transparency Product".
- If the product has variants/children, tick "Apply to child products" to roll the setting out to all variants in one go, rather than setting each one individually.
- Save the product.
You only need to do this once per product — the flag stays on the product record going forward.
Enabling Transparency via Product Import
If you're managing this in bulk rather than product-by-product, you can set the flag using StoreFeeder's Product Import.
- Field name in the import mapping:
Record Amazon Transparency On Barcode Despatch - Accepted values:
Yes/No,True/False,On/Off, or1/0(not case-sensitive). A value is required — the cell can't be left blank for rows using this field. - Visibility: This field only appears in the "Standard Fields" list when your account has the Amazon Transparency Number feature enabled. If you can't see it in the field mapping dropdown, the feature isn't switched on for your account yet — contact support.
How to import it:
- Build your import spreadsheet with a SKU column and a column for
Record Amazon Transparency On Barcode Despatch, set toYesfor every product/variant that should prompt for a Transparency code. - Go to Products > Import/Export and upload the file.
- In the field mapping step, map your column to Record Amazon Transparency On Barcode Despatch.
- Run the import.
⚠️ One important difference from the product edit page: the on-screen toggle has an "apply to child products" option that rolls the setting out to all variants automatically. The import does not have an equivalent — each variant/SKU needs its own row with its own value in the spreadsheet. If you only set it on the parent SKU, the child variants will not inherit it.
Everything else about the feature works the same regardless of how it was enabled — it still only triggers on Amazon orders, and it still only prompts for the code during Scan and Despatch.
How it works once enabled
- The Transparency flag only takes effect on Amazon orders. It has no effect on orders from other channels, even if the same product is listed there.
- When a flagged product is despatched, StoreFeeder pops up a field asking for the Amazon Transparency Number — you (or your warehouse operator) scan or type in the code from the unit's Transparency label at that point.
- The code you enter is:
- Saved against that specific order line.
- Added automatically as a note on the order (labelled "Amazon Transparency Record"), so it's visible in the order history if you ever need to check what was recorded.
- Included in the shipping/fulfilment confirmation that StoreFeeder sends back to Amazon for that order line, satisfying Amazon's Transparency reporting requirement.
- If a Transparency product is despatched without a code being entered, the despatch will be blocked until one is provided — the field can't be left blank once the popup appears.
⚠️ Important — you must use Scan and Despatch
The Transparency Number prompt only appears during Scan and Despatch (barcode despatch). It is not shown on manual/non-scanned despatch workflows.
This means: if a product has "Is Amazon Transparency Product" enabled, you must despatch that order using Scan and Despatch — otherwise there's no point in the process where StoreFeeder will ask for the code, and it won't be reported to Amazon. Please make sure any warehouse staff fulfilling Amazon orders for Transparency-enabled products are despatching via barcode scan, not manual despatch.
