How Storefeeder decides which of your warehouses fulfils each order, and why one order can sometimes become more than one shipment.
|
Good to know Only an account Admin can see and change the routing setting described below — if you can't find it, you'll need an admin on your account to make the change, or ask our support team. Routing works on warehouse priority and stock levels only. |
Where to find it
Go to Settings > Warehouse Management > Despatch Mode and look for Order Routing Algorithm. This one setting applies to every order across your account, and decides which warehouse gets picked for each order line as soon as an order comes in — you don't need to do anything per order for it to run.
Your options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Highest Priority (Ignore Stock) - default | Always sends each order line to that product's top-priority warehouse, even if it happens to be out of stock there. Simple, but can allocate stock somewhere that doesn't have any. |
| Highest Priority (Check Stock) | Sends each line to the highest-priority warehouse that genuinely has enough stock, moving down the priority list (and splitting the line across warehouses if it has to) when the top choice is short. |
| Minimum Shipments (Ignore Stock) | Tries to fulfil the whole order from as few warehouses as possible, without checking whether they actually hold enough stock. |
| Minimum Shipments (Check Stock) | Same goal of using the fewest warehouses, but only considers warehouses that can actually cover the order from real stock. If nothing can fully cover it, it covers as much as it can. |
| Use Pre-Selected Warehouse Only | Sends each line to whichever warehouse your sales channel itself specified (for example, a Shopify Location you've mapped to a warehouse). This isn't chosen from the dropdown — it applies automatically only where your channel provides that mapping. |
In every option above, "priority" means the order you've set on each product's own Warehouses list - see Adding a Product to Additional Warehouses. There's no separate, account-wide warehouse ranking - it's always set per product.
What this means for your orders
- If an order's lines end up split across more than one warehouse, we'll automatically split it into separate orders - one per warehouse - each despatched on its own. This is the usual reason a single order arrives as more than one parcel.
- Kit products are routed by their individual components first, then kept together as one shipment - a kit won't get split across warehouses even if you're using one of the "minimum shipments" options.
- Only warehouses set up for automatic fulfilment are considered by routing. If you use a warehouse purely for dropship or an external fulfilment partner, it can be excluded from routing even if a product is listed against it - ask support if you're not sure how a particular warehouse is set up.
- Which warehouse gets chosen can also affect which shipping method/carrier an order ends up with, since some shipping rules take the warehouse into account. Two similar orders can end up with different couriers if they route to different warehouses.
