Moving Stock Between Warehouses

Two ways to transfer stock from one warehouse to another, and when to use each one.

Good to know

The only requirement is that the product must already exist in both the source and destination warehouse first — see Adding a Product to Additional Warehouses.

A warehouse transfer is a genuine, physical move — not just a number changing on screen. Even when you choose "Immediate," your stock still passes through goods-out at the source and goods-in at the destination; it just happens automatically instead of needing anyone to confirm each step.

Option 1: Warehouse Transfers page (best for bulk or planned moves)

Go to Warehouse > Warehouse Transfers. This is the place to go if you're moving several SKUs at once, or want a warehouse team member to pick and confirm the move rather than doing it yourself from a product page.

  1. On the Create Transfers tab, add a row for each product: the warehouse and location you're moving stock from, the quantity, and the warehouse (and location, if applicable) you're moving stock to.
  2. Turn on Immediate Transfer if you want the stock moved straight away. Leave it off to create a Pending transfer instead — useful if a warehouse team member needs to physically pick and confirm the move first, in the web app or on a handheld device.
  3. In the confirmation window, you can add a Reference for your own records, turn on Use Quarantine if the stock should be hidden from sale while it's in transit, and tick Create Transfer List if you'd like a picking sheet printed.
  4. Click Submit Transfers.

Option 2: from the product page (quick, single product)

  1. Open the product and go to its Adjustments / Transfers tab.
  2. Set the adjustment type to Warehouse Transfer.
  3. Choose the source warehouse and location, the destination warehouse, and how much stock to move.
  4. Save. This route always moves the stock straight away — there's no pending step to confirm later.

This is the quicker option for a single SKU when you don't need a picking task raised for your warehouse floor. For moving lots of stock, the Warehouse Transfers page (and its import tool) will save you a lot of repetition.

Moving stock within the same warehouse

If you just want to move stock between two bins/locations in the same warehouse, that's a different adjustment type — Stock Location Transfer, not Warehouse Transfer. A Warehouse Transfer always expects two different warehouses.

Tips

  • If a transfer says there's "not enough stock," check the specific location you're transferring from — the stock might just be in a different bin at that warehouse.
  • Transfers using Use Quarantine always move stock immediately — you can't leave a quarantined transfer pending.
  • Want a picking sheet? Tick Create Transfer List when you create the transfer — it can't be generated afterwards.
