This guide explains how to assign a batch of products to a new stock location (bin/shelf) in one go, using StoreFeeder's spreadsheet import tool.
Step 1: Export a template
Go to Warehouse > Stock Locations > Stock Location Overview. Select the products you want to assign (or select all), open the bulk actions dropdown, and choose Export Adjustment Template. This downloads a spreadsheet pre-filled with the products you selected, ready to complete.
Step 2: Fill in the template
The template contains the following columns:

| Stock Location Reference | Yes | The bin/shelf reference to assign the product to. If it doesn't already hold this product, the import creates the association automatically – there's no separate "assign" step. |
| Current Inventory | Informational | Shows what StoreFeeder currently holds for that product/location, for reference only. |
| Adjustment Amount | Yes | The quantity to set or add at that location – see Adjustment Type below. |
| Adjustment Type | Yes | Absolute sets the location's stock to exactly the amount entered. Relative adds (or, with a negative number, subtracts) that amount from what's already there. For a brand-new assignment, both usually give the same result. |
| Reason | Recommended | A short note recorded against the adjustment, e.g. "New bin assignment". Useful if you need to trace back why stock moved later. |
Add extra rows for any additional SKUs you want to assign to the same or different locations – the file isn't limited to the products you originally exported.
Assigning a location without adding stock
If you just want to link products to a new stock location without changing how much stock is recorded there – for example, setting up bins ahead of a warehouse move before stock physically arrives – set:
- Adjustment Type: Relative
- Adjustment Amount: 0
A relative adjustment of 0 is treated as a no-op and doesn't touch the stock figure at all – but the product is still linked to the stock location as part of processing the row. This is the safest way to pre-assign locations in bulk without affecting current stock levels.
Step 3: Import the completed file
Go to Warehouse > Stock Locations > Stock Location Adjustments and upload your completed spreadsheet. StoreFeeder will assign each product to the stock location listed and apply the quantity, creating the product-to-location link where it doesn't already exist.
Troubleshooting
A row is rejected asking for a warehouse
This means the Stock Location Reference (or SKU) you entered isn't unique to one warehouse. Fill in the Warehouse column for that row, or use the numeric Stock Location ID instead of the reference – the ID is unique on its own and doesn't need a warehouse to disambiguate it.
Stock Location Adjustments page isn't available
This page only appears once Multiple Stock Locations is enabled on your account. If you can't see it, contact StoreFeeder support to check the feature is switched on.
Product still shows as "Unspecified Location" after importing
Double-check the Stock Location Reference in your file matches an existing bin exactly, and that the row wasn't rejected for being ambiguous (see above). Also check the location hasn't been flagged with a picking exception, which can affect how stock is used even once it's assigned – see the related article below.
Need to assign products via an integration instead of a spreadsheet
StoreFeeder also has a REST API for updating product stock at a location, useful if you're assigning locations programmatically as part of a larger integration. Contact StoreFeeder support for API access and documentation.
